ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK (ADB) 

Assisted Programme:

The ADB assisted North Eastern Region Urban Development Program (NERUDP) is implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle called State Investment Programme Monitoring Implementation Unit (SIPMIU) of which Urban Development Department is the Nodal Department. Projects such as infrastructure improvements in water supply, solid waste managements and sewerage & sanitation has been taken up for the capital city Kohima.

TRANCHE-1 AND TRANCHE-2: REFURBISHMENT OF KOHIMA WATER SUPPLY

The Tranche-I Water Supply Refurbishment comprises of RCC Tanks and Water Treatment Plant at Sc. College, Jotsoma. The Water Treatment Plant was completed and commissioned.
The Tranche-II comprises of water supply network distribution wherein 318 Km of pipeline is laid covering the entire Kohima Municipal Area.

SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT FACILITY FOR KOHIMA AT LERIE

The Solid Waste management Facility for Kohima consists of 50 tonnes per day Compost Plant to process the biodegradable waste, a sanitary landfill to accommodate 42,000 cu.m of waste, a leachate treatment plant of 75,000 litres per day capacity for treating the toxic effluent from the composting process and a landfill, weight bridge, laboratory, garages, high mast lighting, electrical sub-station, firefighting arrangements etc. with development of access road and internal road network.

OTHER PROJECTS UNDER ADB ASSISTED

Other sub-projects includes:
i. Construction of 5 Community Toilet Blocks in Kohima.
ii. Construction of 7 Nos. of Ground Level RCC Tanks in Kohima.
iii. Supply of Garbage Transportation Vehicle, Household bins, PPEs etc &; Supply and Installation of a Dry Waste Segregation& Re-use Unit.
iv. Development of a Septage Treatment Plant for processing the effluent collected from the individual septic tanks.
The expected long-term impact of the ADB assisted project is an improved environment and improved well-being of the urban residents through sustainable and increased access to better urban services.
