NATIONAL URBAN INFORMATION SYSTEM (NUIS):

The National Urban Information System (NUIS) was formulated to monitor the health of urban settlements vis-a-vis two components, namely ‘Urban Spatial Information System’ (USIS) for development of GIS based multi-hierarchical database and ‘National Urban Databank and Indicators’ (NUDB&I) for establishment of comprehensive data bank. The funding pattern is on the basis of matching grant in the ratio of 75% from Centre and 25% from State. The Main objective of this CSS is to establish a comprehensive database of spatial & statistical data such as map/ images and statistical attributes of urban settlements of the State for their effective planning, management and decentralized governance in the context of 74th Constitutional Amendment Act, 1992. Dimapur and Mokokchung towns are identified as NUDB&I/ NOU Towns from the State under the pilot project. Urban Development Department is designated as the Nodal Agency for implementation of the scheme. Till date, the Department has trained two officers under Capacity Building, while three more officers have been trained on Application of GIS and Remote Sensing at Assam Remote Sensing Application Centre, Guwahati and Survey Training Institute (STI), Hyderabad.
